Quetiapine-Induced Hyperprolactinemic Galactorrhea in an Adolescent Male
نویسندگان
چکیده
Quetiapine is an atypical antipsychotic agent with negligible prolactin-elevating properties. Although little data is available, studies show that it is both effective and safe in a variety of childhood mental illnesses. It has also been suggested to be the treatment of choice in antipsychotic-induced hyperprolactinemia in children. We report a case of a fourteen-year old male with conduct disorder who developed hyperprolactinemia and secondary galactorrhea with standard therapeutic dosages of quetiapine, which remitted shortly after a decrease in dose (German J Psychiatry 2006;9:118120).

Quetiapine-induced galactorrhea with normal prolactin level in an adult female patient.
To the Editor: Quetiapine is an atypical antipsychotic agent with less propensity than other atypical antipsychotics to induce antipsychotic-associated hyperprolactinemia in standard recommended therapeutic dosages, and when it does induce the condition at all, the rise in serum prolactin level is only transient. Accordingly, quetiapine has been recommended as an alternative in patients who dev...

متن کاملDose Dependent Course of Hyperprolactinemic and Normoprolactinemic Galactorrhea Induced by Venlafaxine
Venlafaxine is a serotonergic and noradrenergic reuptake inhibitor which is used for the treatment of depression. We report a case of galactorrhea in a patient with major depressive disorder after starting treatment with venlafaxine. In particular, we discuss the course of hyper and normoprolactinemic galactorrhea. We managed this side effect initially by dose reduction and further by switching...
متن کاملLow dose quetiapine induced galactorrhoea: a case report
BACKGROUND Quetiapine causes less prolactin elevation and/or galactorrhoea than other atypical antipsychotics. CASE PRESENTATION Ms AB had galactorrhoea and raised prolactin levels at only 100 mg of quetiapine daily. CONCLUSION Low dose quetiapine can also cause galactorrhoea.
متن کاملEmerging Hyperprolactinemic Galactorrhea in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder with a Stable Dose of Fluoxetine.
While fluoxetine (FXT) is a frequently prescribed selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), with few major side-effects; altered serotonergic transmissions in hypothalamic pathways might lead to a distressing, and often embarrassing, manifestation of galactorrhea by altering prolactin release in those on FXT. We report here a case of FXT-induced hyperprolactinemic galactorrhea developing l...
